Sinopse
When Plantagenet Palliser is unexpectedly asked to form a coalition government, he and his ambitious wife Glencora find themselves at the pinnacle of British society. However, the reality of wielding power proves far more tedious and fragile than the dream, straining both the government and their marriage. A secondary plot involving the disastrous fortunes of an outsider trying to buy his way into parliament mirrors the political themes of inclusion and exclusion. The book provides a detailed, human look at the burden of leadership and the compromises inherent in public life.
