Sinopse
Alice Vavasor struggles with a decision that defies the social norms of her time, oscillating between a safe, respectable marriage and a wild, uncertain future with her cousin. Her hesitation sets off a chain of events that exposes the vulnerability of women in a society ruled by rigid expectations and male privilege. Parallel to her personal turmoil runs a gripping parliamentary drama, linking the private sphere of the heart with the public sphere of the empire. The novel questions the price of independence and the definition of a woman's honor.
